“Hydrogen Energy Pioneer, Driving the World”: Dongde Hydrogen Liquid-Drive Compressor Sets Off for the United States

On April 21, 2025, a batch of hydraulically driven compressors independently developed by Yantai Dongde Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Dongde Hydrogen”) was shipped to the United States, marking a significant breakthrough for China’s core hydrogen energy equipment in the international high-end market. This export not only demonstrates Dongde Hydrogen’s technological prowess but also deepens its collaboration in the global hydrogen equipment sector.

Hydraulic drive compressors are pressurization units specifically designed for high-pressure, medium-to-small displacement, and intermittent operation. They are primarily used in industries that handle high-purity, high-pressure, or rare gases, such as hydrogen refueling stations, tube trailer gas transportation, filling and unloading operations, boosting and high-pressure gas storage systems, cylinder filling, gas mixing systems, chemical, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical plants, gas production for semiconductors, gas delivery, and laboratory research and development.

It is reported that this batch of liquid-driven compressors supplied by Dongde Hydrogen to the United States features discharge pressures ranging from 4 MPa to 25 MPa, with a single-unit displacement of up to 500 standard cubic meters per hour. The U.S. customer had stringent requirements for all performance parameters and operational stability of these compressors; after thorough and in-depth research, they ultimately chose to partner with Dongde Hydrogen. Leveraging its robust independent R&D capabilities, Dongde Hydrogen conducted customized design tailored to the customer’s specific needs and successfully passed on-site testing and acceptance by the customer’s representatives.

This batch of hydraulically driven compressors delivered by Dongde Hydrogen Energy to U.S. customers not only boasts high integration, a large compression ratio, and low overall energy consumption, but also takes into full account the operational characteristics of the U.S. market, incorporating special designs for safe sealing, low-temperature environments, and maintenance. For example:

High Sealing and High Safety: Dongde Hydrogen Energy uses internationally renowned brand seals to ensure leak-free static sealing. The packing features gas‑leak recovery, alarm, and interlock functions, while dynamic sealing leakage is minimized. This makes the equipment suitable for the safe pressurization of flammable, explosive, and toxic gases, meeting stringent U.S. environmental and safety standards.

High efficiency and energy savings: Dongde Hydrogen’s specially designed cylinder cooling water jacket, while effectively controlling temperature rise, enables the DLM04-500 to achieve a single-stage pressure ratio of 3.26, reducing transportation costs and improving storage and transport efficiency.

Adaptation to Low-Temperature Environments: The customer’s operating site is located in northern United States, where winter temperatures can drop as low as –40°C. During the design phase, the Dongde hydrogen‑powered liquid‑driven compressor underwent rigorous material selection to ensure that the entire unit can operate reliably in such cold conditions.

Convenient maintenance: The Dongde hydrogen-powered liquid‑driven compressor unit features a split‑type isolation chamber, saving considerable space during servicing. This allows the compressor to be housed in a container, resulting in a compact unit design.

Universal Integration: The East German hydrogen-powered hydraulic compressor unit features a highly modular design, ensuring widespread component commonality. This makes it suitable for diverse applications such as hydrogen refueling stations and chemical synthesis, aligning closely with the U.S. market’s preference for flexible, modular solutions.

Dongde Hydrogen’s hydrogen‑powered liquid‑drive compressor has been exported to the United States, marking not only a breakthrough for a single product but also a milestone in the global expansion of China’s hydrogen equipment technology. Leveraging proprietary intellectual property, Dongde Hydrogen has broken the long‑standing monopoly of European and American companies in the high‑end compressor market, offering a “China solution” to diversify the global hydrogen supply chain. Looking ahead, Dongde Hydrogen will seize this collaboration as an opportunity to deepen partnerships with the North American market in areas such as hydrogen storage and transportation, and green hydrogen production, thereby advancing the global energy transition toward low‑carbon and intelligent systems.
