Hydrogen Energy: A Key Driver of the Clean Energy Transition

Against the backdrop of a global transition toward a green, low-carbon energy mix, hydrogen energy has emerged as one of the core pathways to achieving carbon neutrality, thanks to its zero emissions, high efficiency, and wide range of applications. According to projections by the International Energy Agency (IEA), by 2050 hydrogen will meet 12% of global energy demand and contribute to emission reductions exceeding 6 billion tonnes. As the world’s largest producer of hydrogen, China has integrated it into its national energy strategy and issued the “Medium- and Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021–2035),” which explicitly aims to build a comprehensive industrial chain covering production, storage, transportation, refueling, and end-use. The plan sets targets of 50,000 fuel cell vehicles in circulation and over one trillion yuan in output value for the hydrogen energy sector by 2025.

Currently, hydrogen energy technologies are advancing rapidly, with applications expanding from the transportation sector—such as fuel-cell vehicles and heavy-duty trucks—to industrial decarbonization (e.g., steel and chemicals) and grid‑scale energy storage and peak‑shaving. Nevertheless, challenges remain throughout the value chain, including high costs and difficulties in storage and transport. In particular, the efficiency and safety of hydrogen compression technologies directly affect the operation of refueling stations and the large‑scale deployment of hydrogen energy. Against this backdrop, companies with core technological advantages are emerging as key drivers of breakthroughs in the industry.

East German High-Efficiency Hydrogen Compression Technology: Solving Industry Pain Points

At the exhibition, Dongde Hydrogen Energy’s flagship DZ45-1500 diaphragm compressor unit attracted significant attention. Designed to meet the specific characteristics of hydrogen, this product features a proprietary membrane chamber design and an intelligent IoT-based early-warning system. It delivers high-pressure, high-flow compression, satisfying the efficient refueling demands of hydrogen stations, while its cloud-based monitoring platform enables remote operations and maintenance, substantially reducing operating costs.

In addition, Dongde’s hydrogen-powered reciprocating piston compressors and hydraulic piston compressors also drew considerable attention from industry professionals. Reciprocating piston compressors are widely used in the power, chemical, oil and gas, and hydrogen sectors, thanks to their broad pressure range, high displacement, and reliable, safe operation. Meanwhile, hydraulic piston compressors, with their capability to handle ultra‑high‑purity gases, are suitable for any industry that uses high‑purity, high‑pressure, or rare gases—such as hydrogen refueling stations; boosting and high‑pressure gas storage systems; gas transmission; tube trailer gas transport; filling and unloading operations; cylinder charging; gas mixing systems; chemical, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical plants; semiconductor gas production; and laboratory research and development.

Full-Chain Industrial Layout: Dongde Hydrogen Energy Builds a Closed-Loop Hydrogen Ecosystem

Dongde Hydrogen Energy used an interactive digital sandbox to dynamically demonstrate the synergistic roles of its equipment across the entire hydrogen value chain—“production, storage & transport, refueling, and application.” For example, in the green‑power‑to‑hydrogen stage, compressors help boost the efficiency of water electrolysis; in storage and transport, high‑pressure compression technology ensures cost‑effective long‑distance delivery; and at hydrogen refueling stations, intelligent equipment reduces vehicle refueling times, enhancing user experience. This closed-loop ecosystem not only showcases Dongde Hydrogen Energy’s technical integration capabilities but also offers a replicable solution for scaling up hydrogen energy applications.

Driving Innovation to Support a Carbon-Neutral Future

In recent years, Dongde Hydrogen Energy has participated in projects such as the green‑power‑to‑hydrogen project in Hami City, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region; the 200,000‑kW wind‑to‑hydrogen joint‑operation demonstration project in Boli County; and the Longqiao Service Area station of China National Petroleum Corporation in Haikou, Hainan, contributing to the advancement of a green, sustainable carbon‑neutral strategy.

Fang Xiaolong, Deputy Director of the Hydrogen Energy Sales Department at Dongde Hydrogen Energy, stated: “Hydrogen energy is the ‘ultimate solution’ to the energy revolution, but technological breakthroughs and cost optimization still require concerted efforts across the entire industry. Dongde Hydrogen Energy consistently places innovation at its core, leveraging independently developed compression technology, rigorous quality control, and intelligent services to continuously reduce costs and improve efficiency throughout the industrial chain. Looking ahead, we will work with our partners to co-build a hydrogen energy ecosystem and contribute to global green and sustainable development.”

Industry Outlook: Accelerating Commercialization of Hydrogen Energy

As China’s “dual carbon” goals gain momentum, the hydrogen energy industry is entering a golden era driven by aligned policy support, capital investment, and technological advancement. Industry data shows that by 2024, the number of hydrogen refueling stations in China had surpassed 400, while sales of fuel cell vehicles increased by more than 80% year over year. Technological breakthroughs by leading companies such as Dongde Hydrogen are not only setting benchmarks for the sector but also paving the way for hydrogen energy to transition from pilot projects to large-scale commercialization, accelerating the advent of a clean energy era.
